Heavy Metal - Original Russian Propaganda Poster

Sarcastic DONA collective poster capturing the rise of heavy metal culture in the late Soviet period. Wearing headphones, the young listener flashes the familiar “devil horns” hand gesture, while jagged bursts of sound around him carry the names of Soviet and Western bands including Kruiz, Aria, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, KISS, Accept and W.A.S.P.

Hand screen-printed on heavy paper stock, the poster combines DONA’s vibrant colors and sharp graphic energy with a humorous portrait of the Soviet metal scene.

Agitplakat Dona was a poster collective established in Rostov-on-Don in the early 1960s, bringing together artists and writers whose designs were subsequently distributed throughout the Soviet Union.
